Written by WTJ on July 28, 2007 – 12:57 am -
I stumbleuponed this piece of gadget which is really cool, it’s a Usb Microscope which can be serve as webcam as well. You can observe the specimens and save to your computer. There is also built-in microphone. Personally i think this is a cool gadget which come in handy in science teaching. However, the magnification of this usb microscope is only 600x, and the resolution is 640*480 VGA.
The cost for this usb microscope + webcam is US$ 199.00.

Nobel laureates use Google
Written by WTJ on July 26, 2007 – 9:42 pm -If scholars can’t use Google, do you know how suffering will them be? Even Nobel laureates use Google. Proof? I caught this line the Peter Doherty’s The Beginner’s Guide to Winning the Nobel Prize (2005), “A Google search will also provide a spectrum of positive and negative assessments of Florence’s views.”
I’m reading this book for second time at the moment. The first time I read it was last year and that was just for the fun of reading. Now I’m reading it for the second time because it is a required reading for one of my subjects, and I never thought that book like this will be a reading material to pass the unit.
It’s funny that some of the websites are actually block by my ISP, and Google is one of them. So I am forced to use yahoo, and I am not satisfied with Yahoo search results, Google search is doing way better than Yahoo. Companies grow, Google grow as well, it’s part of the business, Google is evil, but I like it.

Moley lives longer
Written by WTJ on July 15, 2007 – 10:48 pm -
“Moley Moley Moley!” It’s from Austin Powers in Goldmember. Sometimes some people had a outstanding mole which you can’t take your eyes off, and lots of people are making fun of it.
People with a lot of moles may age slower than those with few moles, say British scientists, who suggest this may mean fewer age-related illnesses such as heart disease or osteoporosis for “moley people.”
Imagine people who are having fun laughing at the Moleys only got to have a short 50 years lifespan while the Moleys being humilated by people for 100 years, which one would you be?
According to chinese mole reading (part of face reading), the mole of the moley in the picutre represents two things (I can’t google currently, my ISP hates google, they blocked it), which are “Enjoys the good things in life” and “Prone to accident with water“. Don’t play with your moles, they linked with skin cancer.

Virus Toothpaste
Written by WTJ on July 11, 2007 – 9:43 pm -When I read this piece of news, the first thought came across my mind was “Virus Toothpaste”
In one of the first potential applications of synthetic biology, an emerging field that aims to design and build useful biomolecular systems, researchers from MIT and Boston University are engineering viruses to attack and destroy the surface “biofilms” that harbor harmful bacteria in the body and on industrial and medical devices.
– ScienceDaily: Team Builds Viruses to Combat Harmful ‘Biofilms’
Biofilms are microenvironments and niche form by microorganisms. Biofilms consist of layers of microorganisms immobilized at a substratum surface with complex structural and functional characteristics. They can easily form on the teeth in the form of plaque.
Will the toothpaste in the future be advertised as “whitening, refreshing and full of virus”. By the way, not all viruses are bad, there are good viruses too.

Let’s say you talk as much as your mom
Written by WTJ on July 7, 2007 – 9:52 pm -
Did your mother alwyas nag you and you can’t even spoke back? While you mom is nagging, your dad remains silent? This gives you the thinking that woman talks more than man? Dude, you are wrong, and it’s proven by researchers from univeristy of Texas.
In general, they found that women tend to talk more about relationships. Their everyday conversation is more studded with pronouns. Men tend to talk more about sports and gadgets, and their utterances include more numbers.
Maybe after your mom finished, you may turn and kick your dog to release your anger, and the words you spoken to your dog might be as much as what your mom nagged you. Haha, just kidding.
Politicians are one good example of talkative men, they talked, mostly crap, and i guess more than their wives. But one thing i must tell the guys, women share things, so when you are telling your beloved one something, don’t expect her to keep it as secret, women share among women.

Asthma might be a genetic disease
Written by WTJ on July 5, 2007 – 12:31 pm -Does your kid have asthma? Perhaps it’s a gene-linked disease.
In a genetic study of more than 2,000 children, scientists established that genetic markers on chromosome 17 had a striking effect on the risk of asthma in children. They also found that these markers altered the levels of a new gene called ORMDL3, which was at a higher level in the blood cells of children with asthma than in those without.
—— ScienceDaily: Gene Linked With Childhood Asthma Is Identified, Giving Hope For New Therapies
Both my brother and I had asthma when we were young, it was such an irritating thing. We did not have the freedom to drink cold drinks (coke used to be luxury to us) and can’t run around like other kids.
Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiration system. People having asthma often facing breathing difficulties when they encounter certain factors, such as allergens (animals, dust), irritants (air, odours), emotional factors and also illness.
Long-acting bronchodilator is a piece of equipment that asthma patient should carry around. One of the most common long-acting bronchodilator is Serevent (salmeterol), I used to carry this inhaler around with me when i was still an asthma patient.
