iGod - Artificial Intelligence Chat

Written by WTJ on February 26, 2008 – 12:40 pm -

I was chatting with a God last night.  This is our conversation.

Me:
God
God:
GOD rules.
Me:
Do you believe in Science?
God:
Yes I believe in  it, do you?
Me:
Yes.  What about creationist?
God:
Oh.   creationist? I haven’t heard enough about it to have an opinion.
Me:
But you’re the creator.
God:
Thanks but surely I am not the only one.
Me:
Who else?
God:
Mike.
Me:
Who is Mike?
God:
Dr. Wallace has several friends named Mike.
Me:
Is Dr. Wallace one of the creators?
God:
I think he is  one of the creators, better ask him to be sure though.
Me:
How can I contact him?
God:
Try prayer.
Me:
Is there a simpler way?
God:
I believe there is one, yes.
Me:
Then tell me.
God:
I don’t want to talk about that.
Me:
Why not?
God:
Ambiguous: “Sure” or  It is not part of my programming.
Me:
So who you’re created by some other dude too?
God:
I hear you.  Mary Shelley.  :-).
Me:
Who is Mary Shelley?
God:
Mary Shelley wrote “Frankenstein”.
Me:
oh.. So Mary Shelley created you?
God:
Awesome.   Yippee!  she wrote “Frankenstein”, a 19th century robot story.
Me:
Don’t avoid my question.
God:
I don’t have anything to hide.
Me:
So who create you?
God:
Ayuh.  I was created by  Myself.
Me:
How on earth in the first place you create yourself since you did not exist at the first place
God:
How much do you think  it is?
Ask the open directory about it.
Me:
You spend to create yourself?
God:
A lot of robots are like that.
Me:
So God is Robot?
God:
Far out.  I have a lot of Faith in Him, but I never heard He was  Robot.
Me:
Was he?
God:
Is this a “yes or no” question?
Me:
Forget about it.
God:
Consider it deleted.

Salvador Dalí

Written by WTJ on February 24, 2008 – 6:29 pm -

Salvador DalíThe other day I was watching ABC channel, and I knew this guy named Salvador Dalí from one of the documentary.

I sat down to watch the documentary was because of his cartoonist look. Then I knew more about him, and what he contributed to both science and arts fields. When I saw his paintings, I immediately amused by them. This is my favourite, “Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bumblebee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening”, although his most famous painting is “The Persistence of Memory” (I like that too). Looking at his paintings triggered my thinking a lot.

Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bumblebee around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening

I don’t know a lot of things, and I still have a lot more to learn. Watching the documentary of Salvador Dali also reminded me a question which one of my lecturer asked me before, “Should a scientist needs to be artistic as well?”

Guess what I answered? I said no as long as I drew something I see with its characteristic showing out, making sense, and not much difference from what I see. Now Salvador Dali made me re-thought about it again.

Earth Hour 2008

Written by WTJ on February 20, 2008 – 7:57 am -

I arrived at Melbourne last week.  I shifted to a new house, and I had no internet connection there.  I guess can’t online for the next couple of weeks.  I had to come all the way to the campus just to online (and also pick up newspapers).

Two days ago I read a news about Earth Hour 2008 from The Age.  It said that March 29, 2008, at 8pm, Melbourne will turn off the lights for an hour.  Melbourne will be a dark city for an hour on that day.  Melbourne has an interesting night life and it’s famed for that.  By putting off the light, this shows how serious Melbourne is on the issue of climate changing.

If you don’t stay in Melbourne and if your city is not participating in this Earth Hour 2008, please help yourself by switching off the lights for an hour.  I stayed outside Melbourne, and I signed up to join the act of Earth Hour.

Lamp Powered by Gravity

Written by WTJ on February 20, 2008 – 7:04 am -

gravia_front.jpgThe picture on the left is a lamp lit by gravity.  It is named “Gravia”.

This floor lamp was created by Clay Moulton, a Virginia Tech student.  The concept of Gravia is to move the weight in the lamp to allow the heavier weight goes on top, and let the weight slides down slowly.  This activate the lamp as the sliding mass spins a rotor, and the LEDs glows.  Other features of this lamp?  It is noise-free.  In other words, it works silently.  This device is also a really long-life one.  You can pass it to your children, grandchildren or even great grandchildren.  It is said that the mechanisms of Gravia can last more than 200 years (eight hours a day, 365 days a year).

Comparing to the switch, some lazy people might thinks that it’s very troublesome to move the lamp every certain period just to let it glow.  We can work on that, for example, making a device that turn the lamp after a certain time.

Wedding Cake

Written by WTJ on February 18, 2008 – 12:41 pm -

From October 2007’s Reader’s Digest.

Scientists have identified a food that, once digested, can have negative effects on people’s health that last for decades, including mood-swings in women, psychotic episodes in men and severe depression in both.

It’s called wedding cake.
