Struggling With Artemis

Written by WTJ on March 13, 2008 – 7:59 pm -

I’m currently having troubles with this new software, Artemis, to annotate a given sequence file.  Although I’m struggling to figure out how to use it, it is still better and easier to use than the ones I used before.

artemis

I was given a bacteria sequence file, and I was supposed to the open reading frame (ORF), start and end codons, promoter, ribosome binding site (RBS), repeat sequences, etc.

When I was doing online quiz today, I was proud of myself as I figured out how to use the software to answer the questions.  After I submitted it, I was discussing with my friends.  Then I realized that the ORFs I detected were different from others, but we were using the same methods to obtain ORFs.  After doing some investigation, I found out that there was another friend changed the option to analyze the “yeast mitochrondial”.  Next time when I need to use this software again, I won’t just straight away use what others used before.  I will definitely open a new window for the software.
