Rubbing Hands To Coat More Bacteria on Hands

Written by WTJ on September 19, 2010 – 10:55 am -

Scientists from University of Bradford, UK found that hands are more contaminated with bacteria for rubbing hands in the hand dryers after washing.  In the study, 14 volunteers dried their hands in three different types of air dryer for 15 seconds.  It is found that bacteria coated on skin reduced by 37 per cent when hands are kept still under the machine.  Compared to dryer, paper towels are more effective in reducing bacterial count.

The study was published in Journal of Applied Microbiology.  The authors included A.M. Snelling, T. Saville, D. Stevens and C.B. Beggs.
