Kimchi-Colored Cats

Written by WTJ on December 17, 2007 – 10:15 am -

red glowing catsKorean scientist had cloned cats which glowed red in dark.

The researchers at Gyeongsang National University, headed by Kong Il-keun, produced several of the kittens early this year, modifying a gene to change their skin color, government news media reported.

Since the case of Hwang Woo-Suk, people are being more skeptical to Korean researches. Many people are amazed by how the glowing cats, but not the contribution of the glowing cats give. Some may say that these cats are just to for Korean public relation.
These cats are cloned from modified gene from mother cat. The fluorescent gene was inserted into the gene before transplanting into the egg. As cats have similar gene as human, this indicates that such method can be used to cure genetic disorders in human.

It’s kind of scaring to have a glowing cat at home. Cats are not the only animals that are modified to glow, other animals such as fish, rabbit and pig also glowed before.

Went to Batu Caves this morning for photo shooting, found a lots of playful long-tailed macaques. I tried to get closer to them to get a better shoot, found that they are quite approachable, not afraid of humans.

Caught this funny scene accidentally, lol!

Save your cats from Alzheimer’s disease

Written by WTJ on December 8, 2006 – 12:23 pm -

pet_medicine.jpgYou may think that your pets will not get any disease that affect human, but you are wrong:

(HealthDay News) — Cats can develop a feline form of Alzheimer’s disease, say U.K. and U.S. researchers who identified a protein that can build up in brain nerve cells and cause mental deterioration.

You may not care about the old folks, but most people do care for their pets. So if you are trying to pull funds out of people who don’t care for old folks, maybe you can change your slogan to “Save Your Cats from Alzheimer’s disease, Fund Us”.
