Thigh Muscle to Replace Heart Muscle

Written by WTJ on December 16, 2007 – 3:23 pm -

To perform the procedure, the researchers first took about 10 grams of muscle from one of the patient’s thighs. Myoblast cells (a type of muscle stem cell) were then extracted from the muscle tissue, placed in a culture solution and grown into 50-micron-thick sheets measuring about 5 centimeters (2 inches) in diameter. Several layers of myoblast sheets were then applied to the surface of the impaired heart, where they helped strengthen the muscle and restore cardiac function.

I’m really impressed by Japanese researchers. If there’s a chance, I shall do my research in Japan.

Nanotoilet Chisai Benjo

Written by WTJ on November 19, 2007 – 12:06 pm -

I’m always interested in nanotechnology, but I didn’t have a chance to involve in it. Japanese Takahashi Kaito won the Most Bizarre award at The 49th International Conference on Electron, Ion and Photo Beam Technology and Nanofabrication Bizarre/Beautiful Micrograph Contest.

chisai benjo small toilet

This photo was titled Chisai Benjo (”Small Toilet”) in magnication of ~15,000X, and I absolutely have no idea where it was located. According to the picture description, this small toilet might be a collective site for ions, electrons or even small molecules. Perhaps it’s a receptor or ligand. This photo is just so exciting.
