Contaminated Hairspray
Written by WTJ on March 9, 2008 – 9:19 am -
Hairspray might not be the favourite thing of many scientists. We had untidy, long and messy hair. The classic example is Einstein.
Scientists in Japan have discovered a new species of bacteria that can live in hairspray, according to the results of a study published in the March issue of the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology.
“Microbacterium hatanonis” was given to the newly discovered bacteria as a honour to Dr Kazunori Hatano. The genome of this bacteria still need to be analyzed to prove that it is a new species just recently discovered. According to Dr. Bakir, the bacteria is rod-shaped and grow in the environment which is pH neutral and 30°C. The clinical effect of the bacteria is not known yet.
The contamination of hairspray also brings a message that this bacteria can contaminate other cosmetic products as well. This bacteria is also found in milk, cheese, beef, and eggs.
