Giant Panda Genome Unlocked
Written by WTJ on October 12, 2008 – 9:57 pm -
The genome of giant panda has been successfully mapped by scientists in China. The genome map was revealed in the 10th China International Hi-Tech Fair at Shenzhen by scientists from Cardiff University. Panda has similar gene number like human, which is around 30,000. It is also found that panda is related to black bear rather than raccoon. By mapping out the genome map could help scientists unlock the dark secrets of panda, such as why the panda have black circles around their eyes, why they like to eat bamboo, why they don’t hibernate, and why they don’t like to make love.
